The Power of the Written Word

Note: this post is sponsored by the Latent Vision Project. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I love to write. I always have. I’ve always been a huge bookworm, so maybe that has something to do with it – I don’t know. But there’s something about written words; reading a good book, writing down my thoughts, dreams, ideas, making lists, taking notes (writing a blog). There’s something about written words – they’re powerful. I truly believe that there is power in the written word.img_2789

When my thoughts are all jumbled together, it helps me to write. When I have a lot on my plate, I make a list and write it all down. When I have thoughts keeping me up at night or ideas swirling in my head – I write them down and then I can sleep. And during a class, a bible study, a sermon – anything of the sort, I take notes on the important things I want to remember. Especially lately, with everything going on with selling our house and searching for a new home, I’ve had so many thoughts and feelings swirling around and one of the things that has helped me so much is writing these things down. I’m able to make sense of my feelings and thoughts when I write them down.

Because of my love of writing, I love when it’s time to get a new journal or planner (I have so many of them from over the years!). That’s why I was SO excited when I was approached by a fellow boss mom Dora at Latent Vision Project to try out her brand new journal and write about it! This journal is really quite beautiful, but I love the vision behind the journal.

On her blog, Dora explains where it all started, with a dream. As moms and women we tend to put the needs of others (children, husband, family needs) before our own, and sometimes that means setting aside our dreams for a while. Dora was no different and set those dreams to the side, until one day she was inspired to stop and to chase her dreams.

This journal is part of the fruit of those dreams. Through the Latent Vision Project, Dora hopes to help other women start chasing and achieving the dreams that have been placed in their hearts. How? By writing it down.

Writing it down! It seems so simple, and yet it’s profound. When you write something down, you have given it substance. You begin to take steps and actions to achieve it, to make it real. This journal is perfect for that – jot down notes, dreams, to-do lists, bible study notes. It’s the perfect cross between a planner and a journal. With its 6-ring binder format, it’s easy to add, remove, and rearrange pages. It has a 3 year calendar, a conversion chart, contact info, and health guide, as well as pockets for your ID and other cards and a pen holder, and it has a nice magnetic clasp closure.

What I like most about the journal though is the unique touches it has from a fellow boss mom & dream builder. The front page is a page full of daily affirmations – statements to speak over yourself or read daily to help build you up and remind you of biblical truths. And on front, it is beautifully inscribed with relevant scripture from Habakkuk 2:2-3.

…Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true. But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true. It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it; it will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 GNT

When I read this, it was like it was popping out and speaking directly to me. The journey we have been walking lately in my family, the dreams that we have – it’s been hard to trust that it will come true. But we have written them down and have prayed and are working towards them. Reading this inscription was basically confirmation for me at that time that we were doing the right things in working towards those dreams.

The journal featured in the photos is a beautiful blue, but if blue is not your jam it’s also going to come in pink and a dark brown – something for every personality and gender (yes, it’s good for husbands too!).
